Advantages of Plate & Shell HE
Plate and shell heat exchanger is a structural form between a tube and shell heat exchanger and a plate heat exchanger, which takes into account the advantages of both:
*1 Taking the plate as the heat transfer surface makes the heat transfer efficiency good. The heat transfer coefficient is about twice of a tube-shell heat exchanger.
*2 Compact structure and small size.
*3 Higher temperature and pressure resistance, the maximum working temperature can reach 800℃, and the maximum working pressure can reach 6.3 MPa.
*4 The fluid flows at high speed in the flat flow channel, and the board surface is smooth, which is not easy to scale. The plate bundle can be removed and it is convenient to clean. However, the manufacturing process of this kind of heat exchanger is more complex than that of tube-shell heat exchanger, with large welding volume and high requirements, so its promotion and application are limited. Plate-shell heat exchangers are used in industrial sectors such as chemical industry, papermaking, pharmaceuticals and food. Typical products are mainly used in food, medicine and other processing industries that require good heat transfer efficiency and short residence time.
